Nissan’s Green Activities

Plants turning green?

Sure we build high performance cars but we’re also trying to reduce the impact we have on the environment. For example, we’re nuts about implementing systems and control standards for those substances that have an environmental impact. And we do everything possible to reduce both the amount of these substances used and emitted in our production operations.

We're reducing CO2 output by 7% by 2010

It may not seem a lot, but by 2010 we aim to reduce CO2 emissions from our plants to 7% lower than 2005 levels (globally, per vehicle). Because nearly all CO2 emissions from production processes are caused by the use of fossil fuels from the energy we consume, we’re trying to produce cars that use smaller amounts of energy. And we’ll keep on reducing CO2 by starting the best methods available wherever we can.

We like windmills so much we have a collection.

Like the power-generating wind turbine in Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK. And the "Yokohama Large-Scale Wind Power Project" in Yokohama, Japan, where we purchase energy generated there. Oh, and not forgetting our solar energy panels at Nissan Motor Ibérica, S.A. (Spain). Since May 2007, these cool looking panels became the first attempt by an automobile company in Europe to use solar energy and it won’t be the last.

Part of our job is rubbish

Waste is not wasted. With our “3R” project (“reduce”, “reuse”, “recycle”), we’re finding new ways to reduce waste at all of our production sites.  We’re redoubling our commitment to improve recycling rates globally. Car recycling.
