Nissan e.dams drivers Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland have set a blistering record-setting debut run at the Formula E Electric Street Racing series.
Impressively, the duo claimed 6 pole position across 13 races during season 5 making them the ones to watch this season. Speaking of which, this new season in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia starts on Nov 22 – 23, and will travel to cities including Santiago, Chile; Hong Kong, Paris, Seoul, Rome and New York before rounding the series off in London in July 2020.
As a duo Buemi and Rowland make a striking pair, and joined the e-racing circuit with Nissan last year in order to showcase the impressive Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies the brand is known for. But individually, they are impressive by themselves, with Buemi racking up 4-consecutive podiums and placing 2nd in the driver’s championship and Rowland scoring more points than any rookie throughout the season. Not bad for a debut run!
Qualifying for every Super Pole session and setting a record of 16 Super Pole appearances between the duo, Buemi and Rowland have been top of the time sheets in 17 qualifying rounds, giving them the best performance as a whole by any competing team.
“Sebastien’s run to second place in season five and his attitude as a team player, made him an easy choice for our season six lineup” said Michael Carcamo, Nissan’s Global Motorsports Director. “Oliver proved to be a very fast learner, and we quickly got used to seeing his name at the top of the time sheets. There’s no doubt we have an outstanding driver combination.”
Winning the team’s first victory in New York in season five’s penultimate round, Buemi has managed to maintain his record as the most successful driver in Formula E history with a staggering 13 wins, 14 pole positions and seven of the fastest lap times recorded. Alongside him, his newcomer teammate Rowland has been top of the time sheets for 10 qualifying rounds throughout the season, and even earned Nissan’s first ever podium position at the event in Sanya, China!
Teaming up with championship-winning racing team e.dams Nissan launched themselves into Formula E last year, becoming the first Japanese manufacturer to enter the series. Not simply to race, but in order to showcase the impressive zero tailpipe emissions technology that is used throughout the available EV range, and a testbed for future EV technologies.
“Sebastien went out of his way to help Olivier in his rookie year” continues Caramaco. “For him, it was all about driving the team forward, even on days when Oliver was faster. Having Seb bring home our first victory is a moment everyone at Nissan will remember for a long time.”
Intelligent, advanced and always on the lookout to improve (our kaizen ethos), Nissan is taking the Formula E circuit by storm; we can’t wait to see what the boys do in Riyadh!
