What is Motability?

The Motability scheme helps people with disabilities lease a car using their mobility allowance, including DLA, PIP, or Armed Forces mobility benefits. You can choose from a range of accessible Nissan vehicles, with key running costs - like insurance, servicing, breakdown cover, and repairs - already included. The scheme is designed to help make driving more straightforward and support greater independence.

What cars are available on Motability?

Nissan offers a wide range of Motability cars to suit different mobility needs, including compact city cars, spacious SUVs, and electric vehicles. Many models can be adapted for easier access or driving. When you choose a Nissan Motability vehicle, key costs like insurance, servicing, maintenance, and even tyre and windscreen replacement are included, making it simple to get on the road with confidence.

How do I apply for a Motability car?

To qualify for the Motability scheme, you must receive a qualifying mobility allowance, such as the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or the Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), with at least 12 months remaining on your award.

Applying is simple: check your eligibility, choose a Nissan Motability vehicle, and visit a Motability-accredited Nissan dealership. The team will guide you through the paperwork and place your order. Once approved, your new car will be prepared and delivered to you.

How does Motability work?

The Motability scheme lets you lease a car by exchanging your qualifying mobility allowance. Once your eligibility is confirmed, you choose a Nissan vehicle that suits your needs and enter a three-year lease, with payments made directly from your allowance to Motability Operations.

Nissan models such as Nissan Juke have no extra cost, but others may require an Advance Payment. The lease includes an annual mileage allowance and the option to add up to three named drivers. At the end of the lease, you can simply choose a new vehicle and renew your agreement.

What can you get through Nissan Motability?

Nissan Motability offers a wide choice of vehicles to suit a range of mobility needs, including electric options like the All-New Nissan LEAF and Nissan ARIYA. When do Motability prices change?

Motability prices are updated every three months, at the start of each new calendar quarter—in January, April, July, and October. These updates reflect any changes to vehicle availability, specification, or Advance Payments across the scheme.

How much does it cost to set up a Motability car?

The cost to set up a Motability car depends on the vehicle you choose. Most of your lease is covered by your qualifying mobility allowance, and some vehicles may require an Advance Payment, a one-off upfront cost to access specific models or trims.

Your lease includes insurance, servicing, breakdown cover, maintenance, and tyre and windscreen replacement, all bundled into the package – speak to your Nissan Motability specialist to find out more. Adaptations to make your car more accessible may also be included at no extra cost, depending on your needs.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) and electric vehicles are also available through the scheme, and your Nissan Motability specialist can help you understand any additional costs and support available.

WHAT HYBRID OR 7-SEATER VEHICLES ARE AVAILABLE ON MOTABILITY?

Nissan offers a range of vehicles through the Motability scheme to suit different lifestyles and mobility needs. If you're looking for a hybrid option, the Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER technology or Nissan Juke is available, offering the efficiency of a hybrid with the feel of an electric drive.

For families or those needing extra space, the Nissan X-Trail is available as a 7-seater, combining practicality with comfort and Nissan advanced safety features.

How many tyres can I have on Motability?

You can have up to eight replacement tyres during a three-year lease, as part of your all-inclusive package. If your lease is longer than three years, you’ll get two extra tyres for each extra year. Tyres are covered under the fair usage policy. If you go over your tyre allowance, they may ask you to cover the cost of any extra replacements.

How does tyre replacement work on Motability?

There’s no set limit to how many tyres you can have replaced during your Motability lease. Tyre repair and replacement are included as part of your Motability package.If your tyres are worn or damaged through normal use, they’ll be repaired or replaced at no cost to you. However, damage caused by misuse or neglect may not be covered. Regular tyre checks are recommended to ensure safety and stay within cover – speak to your Nissan Motability specialist to find out more.
